Training and Capacity Building (2023-24)
The Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD) actively engages in training as a core component of its activities. The training programmes organized by SPNIWCD comprehensively encompass major initiatives of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, such as Mission Poshan, Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti. In addition to offline programmes, it is significant to note that SPNIWCD has expanded its reach by hosting training programs on online platforms, thus adopting modern and accessible methods of sharing knowledge.
During the fiscal year 2023-2024, the Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD) accomplished a noteworthy milestone by successfully conducting a total of 678 comprehensive programmes, encompassing both online and offline modalities. These initiatives spanned a diverse array of activities, including orientation courses, sensitization and skill training sessions, workshops, and consultations/review meetings, diligently addressing a spectrum of schemes under the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) and contemporary themes.
The SPNIWCD Headquarters played a pivotal role by hosting 270 programmes, while the Regional Centres situated in Mohali, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Lucknow, and Indore collectively organized 408 programmes. This strategic distribution effectively catered to regional training needs in the domain of women and child development.
Among the 678 programmes, a significant emphasis was placed on Capacity Building of Anganwadi Services Scheme Functionaries, constituting 316 programmes. Following closely, 139 programmes were dedicated to Child Protection, 87 programmes delved into issues related to Women Development, and 120 programmes specifically addressed topics related to Child Development, including Mental Health.
The impact of these initiatives is underscored by the substantial participation of 28,526 participants in the training programmes throughout the fiscal year. Notably, the Headquarters hosted 12,300 participants, with Regional Centres in Mohali (3,897), Bengaluru (3,272), Guwahati (3,141), Lucknow (2,480) and Indore (2,839) contributing significantly to the overall participant numbers. This comprehensive effort signifies SPNIWCD's commitment to capacitate and address crucial aspects of women and child development nationwide.
Capacity Building of Functionaries of Anganwadi Services Scheme under Umbrella ICDS
Children serve as the bedrock of a nation, thus prioritizing their well-being is paramount for the advancement and prosperity of any country. Recognizing this fundamental principle, the government of India has introduced the Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0. This initiative aims to tackle the pervasive challenges of malnutrition affecting children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. Central to its approach is a strategic reorientation of nutrition content and delivery mechanisms.
The Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD), functioning as the apex institution for the training of Anganwadi service functionaries, has played a pivotal role in facilitating the successful implementation of Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0. Through its concerted efforts, SPNIWCD has fostered the creation of a convergent ecosystem conducive to the program's objectives. This ecosystem encompasses various stakeholders and resources, fostering collaboration and synergy to address malnutrition comprehensively.
It is noteworthy to mention that SPNIWCD (Headquarters and Regional Centers) conducted a comprehensive number of 316 training programmes, strategically organized to enhance the capacities of Anganwadi functionaries at both headquarters and regional centers. In these programs more focus was put on the topics such as nutrition, early childhood care, education, monitoring, supervision, and community mobilization efforts. Evidently this capacity-building aspect has been instrumental in enhancing the quality and effectiveness of nutrition-related services rendered at the grassroots level. By harnessing the collective efforts and comprehensive capacity building SPNIWCD has laid the groundwork for a healthier, more resilient future generation, thereby driving the nation towards inclusive development and socio-economic advancement.
Child Protection
The Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD) has assumed a pivotal role in spearheading child protection initiatives, focusing on enhancing the capabilities and knowledge of officials engaged in implementing the Child Protection Service Scheme. Through a series of comprehensive training programs conducted at both national and regional levels, SPNIWCD endeavours to standardize and optimize child protection efforts across diverse administrative jurisdictions, thereby fostering a safer environment for children nationwide. The Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD) has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to child protection through the organization of 139 programmes covering a spectrum of themes crucial to safeguarding children's well-being.
Furthermore, to support the effective implementation of schemes such as Mission Vatsalaya, and PM CARES for Children SPNIWCD organized a series of capacity-building programs targeting various stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on District Child Protection Officers (DCPOs) because they hold a crucial role in executing and guaranteeing the success of child protection schemes at the grassroots level. The stakeholder were given specialized training and resources to enhance their capabilities.
The goal was to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively carry out their responsibilities within the framework of the Mission Vatsalaya Scheme.
Women Development
The Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD) plays a crucial role in advancing gender equality and women's empowerment. Through extensive research and documentation, SPNIWCD aims to understand the complexities of women's development, providing evidence-based insights to shape policies and interventions that address the real needs of women. Training is at the core of SPNIWCD's mission, as it conducts diverse programs and workshops to drive forward the agenda of women's empowerment. By equipping individuals and organizations with the necessary knowledge and skills, SPNIWCD fosters a supportive environment for women's advancement and contributes to building a more inclusive society.
SPNIWCD organized a total of 87 programs meticulously designed to address women-centric issues. These initiatives notably encompassed orientations on the Mission Shakti scheme and its two subsidiary schemes, namely Sambal and Samarthya. Moreover, the programs prioritized gender sensitization, with a particular emphasis on combatting Gender-Based Violence. Noteworthy subjects covered included the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act of 2013 and the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act of 2005. These educational endeavors targeted not only government officials but also civil society organizations, aiming to foster a comprehensive understanding and proactive approach towards these critical legislations and their implementation. Through strategic planning and focused execution, SPNIWCD sought to empower women, create safer environments, and promote gender equality across various sectors of society.
Child Development
The Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD) strives to achieve global recognition as a leading institution in the realm of child development. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the institute organised a total of 120 programs, each delving into pivotal things such as early childhood development, mental health and wellbeing of children and educational and behavioural challenges including ADHD. Through this comprehensive array of initiatives SPNIWCD not only underscores its dedication to addressing the multifaceted interventions of child development but also underscores its commitment to disseminating invaluable knowledge to parents, caregivers, and the academic community. By offering guidance and support to caregivers and educators, SPNIWCD endeavours to foster an environment conducive to the holistic growth and well-being of children across various stages of development. The primary emphasis was placed on critical issues like the excessive use of screens by children, nutritional counselling skills and the promotion of correct Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices.
These initiatives reflect SPNIWCD’s proactive approach towards tackling contemporary challenges affecting children’s health and development.
